Early in the course of Mom’s stay at Agrace, there was an interaction I had with one of the nurses. I was leaving for the night and as I was leaving I stopped to thank her for everything she was doing for Mom. She walked up to me and looked me in the eye and said, “Don’t thank me—It is my HONOR to take care of your Mom”.
I walked away and was very taken aback from this interaction, yet over the weeks at Agrace I came to believe that this attitude was the norm and not the exception with the staff who are dedicated to being midwifes for the dying.
After almost six week at Agrace, I can now say that it was my honor to meet them and witness the kindness, care and compassion that they showed to my most precious Mom.
